From The Desk of Pastor Jane......

This August edition of the SAINTS ALIVE! Newsletter will be brief – a “news lite” edition / a slow-poke summer edition.”   But be prepared for a large edition coming in September where I’ll be describing the fall programming – much is in the works for fall!

Please continue to pray for the CENTENNIAL FESTIVAL EUCHARIST as we conclude the official Centennial Year…….and celebrate the INAUGURATION OF THE BEGINNING OF THE NEXT 100 YEARS!  The service will be the last Sunday in September, the 28th at 10:00 AM.  I am asking for full participation in the service by every single parishioner – we will be embarking on a communication blitz to make sure everyone knows about the great celebration service.

Take advantage of any free time you may have over the summer for re-creation whether or not you go away for vacation or take short day trips.  Take time for good times with family and friends – but also take personal time for meditation, prayer and reading….God desires your personal time spent with God……and with others.

Enjoy the gifts God is giving you and give thanks………stay cool!

Wishing you Joy and Peace in Our Lord,

Jane+

Inside Higher Education on July 22, 2008 featured an article called “Theology of Life” about Benedictine University’s new theology certificate program, which can be combined with any major.  There was a quote which I think we would all agree to its importance. Think Christian for Catholics, but it applies to all religions.

“If we don’t have lay Catholics in the world who understand their faith and how to apply it – to journalism, to movie-making, to their law practice, to their business – we’ve failed, basically, because that is the lay vocation, saving the world in our daily work.”

The world needs good moral individuals in every walk of life.  The Christian plumber, doctor, or teacher is as precious to God and as important to the church as any ordained person.  God calls all of us to serve Him.
